Richard has always been actively involved in and passionate about Art, Architecture, the New Zealand landscape and native bush. After graduating from the University of Auckland, with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1984 and working as an Architect, Richard has combined his interest in Art, with his Architecture, as much as possible. Since leaving Architecture in 2002, he has relished the opportunity to concentrate more on painting. His lifelong interest in gardening, native plants, the natural landform and the environment influence his Art and are the main themes he captures on canvas.
“Through painting I explore and learn more about things that I am interested in and endeavour to share them in a new light. There is so much nature around us that we pass by every day and do not get to examine closely and see how magical it is with the light, form, colour and texture all combining together.”
