Andrea Ventling’s Art represents the culmination of her diverse life experiences.
Originally from Switzerland, Andrea studied Biology and gained a PhD in marine science. This brought her to New Zealand, where she fell in love with the coastal wildlife. Andrea’s next adventure led her to Interior Design, where she earned a reputation producing bespoke paint finishes for furniture and walls.
The alchemy of metallic leaf, shellac, inks, etc now find a creative extension in her artworks.
Silver and gold leaf heightens the attention of the viewer and transforms the subject into something precious.
In her recent artworks she has used silver leaf as a luminous background to play with reflection and light experienced under water while swimming or diving. The large scale paintings invite you to dive under water along with her, swimming through schools of fish and kelp, gazing up at the surface of the water where the sunlight filters through. The viewer gets pulled into the paintings where time can stand still for a moment, experiencing a spiritual connection with this colourful and silent world of underwater creatures.
