Anna Stichbury was born in Wellington in 1974. She attended Wellington School of Design and graduated with a Bachelor of Design, majoring in Textiles. Still living in Wellington, Anna paints full-time from her home studio. Anna’s paintings are bold and feature intense hues, and gold leaf has become a regular feature. Her background in textiles and love of rich colour and texture are always evident in her work. These factors combine to create a vibrancy and immediate impact for the viewer. Her bold, gestural brushwork skillfully abstracts vast swathes of sea and sky. Areas of luminosity and dripping paint suggest details of place and time as well as highlighting elemental and emotional textures.
“My work is an abstract response to my environment, both external and internal. My current works are increasingly abstract and I strive to create harmony, not only on the canvas, but in life.”
