Working full time as an artist since 1994, Neville identifies as a sculptor and as an Illustrator. Neville also produces "The Artwonk" an Art Marketing Podcast series
Sculpture-
Neville has a passion for sculpting in stone and steel. A regular invitee to international Collaboration Art events in New Zealand, Australia and Canada, Neville is sought after as a demonstrator of his steel carving techniques. His works range from house friendly to six meter plus public pieces and are held in public and private collections internationally.
“When I carve i find my Pacifica roots push forward and i inevitably end up carving figurative works. If carving in stone I am drawn to the harder stone types like granite, greywacky and serpentine and especially love resolving a piece to a high gloss finish. However, if I’m carving steel I like to explore shallow relief and work primarily with a rust or chemically induced duller finish that accents shadow and form”.
Illustration-
Since 1990 Neville has been developing a following internationally as a pen and Ink illustrator. He has produced many hundreds of his fun and quirky paintings revolving around the animal kingdom with a special nod to the humble sheep.
“As a creative I love pushing ideas and concepts to their limits. The pen and inks allow me to play with narratives and ideas in a space where gravity and physics don’t hold sway. I use the illustrations to work up ideas and as a release that feeds into the sculpting discipline albeit with little to no visual crossover. Both forms of creativity feed the maker/storyteller in me in different ways”.
